Mapping Garage Sales Nationwide

Eleven years ago, our young family moved to Seattle for a college
program, with whatever fit in our two door Mazda. We moved unto a small
apartment with our two small boys. On Friday nights I used to pull out
my laminated map of Seattle and put little red dots on it to map out
the next mornings garage sales.

I thought, "When are 'They' going to do this for us?" Then I asked,
"Who's 'They'? Why can't I do this?" I shook my head thinking I was
crazy. Yes I had worked in the software industry before coming home to
take care of my first child, but I had nowhere near the experience
necessary to pull something like this off.

As the years passed and technology evolved, and I looked into it, I
came to believe I could build a web site that could map all the
garage sales in the United States.

After my husband graduated from college with his masters degree, I
found myself a single mother to care for 4 children, I knew I had to
build it.

Five years ago, I had the garage sale system set up. The site had nearly 10,000
garage sales on it's best weekends. But family circumstances were too much
for me as a single mother, and I had to put everything on hold.

Garage sales were my way of making ends meet and finding the things I
needed for my family. Before I discovered yard sales, we simply did without.
For a long time I was too embarrassed of my clothing to step out the front door.
After I discovered garage sales, my children and I had
decent clothing to wear, and Christmas toys under the tree.

Two years ago I started over from scratch and created GarageSaleNation.com.
This time, I have over 20,000 garage sales listed each week in 4,000 cities and
towns across the United States.

I wanted to build something that would help people. By Garage Saling,
my family obtained the material things we needed and wanted. I know
there are countless single mothers and young struggling couples that
need this.

Now with gas prices as nasty as they are, people need garage sales
mapped more than ever.

People can list their garage sale on this site for $9.95.
The system lists addresses for garage sales like a phone book with a
matching map.

I try to keep it as simple as possible, eliminating the long prose
often found in traditional classifieds, and eliminating out of date sales.
This is easier to read and sort through for customers.

I hope you are blessed by it!
